Luis Abinader, the Dominican Republic president, announces the end of Covid-19 restrictions on the 17th February 2021.

The news created contrasting positions where there were people in favor of the measure and against it, while few people decided not to wear masks.

It is reported that only few people decided not to wear masks in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, on the first day that its use is not mandatory in the country, after almost two years of continuous use.

The former Minister of Health, Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas, believes that the measures of suspending all restrictions by the presidential announcement are confusing and will affect the Vaccination Plan, already approved by the authorities.

The Dominican Republic became the first country in Latin America to eliminate all Covid-19 restrictions imposed by the pandemic, however, the use of masks is still recommended as a voluntary prevention option.
